It is no longer considered an impossible task for women with ambition to navigate her way and reach management positions or to manage her own business. It has been said that the best manager is a woman manager and if you believe it, we recommend you to just do it. Just before we send you to your fascinating new way we want to give you a few tips, tips that can get you going and help you quickly find the way.
Much has been said about metaphors like “glass ceiling” or “maze” But when you see the obstacles and learning strategies and behaviors, you will get very high places in your career and will succeed. If you aspire more – first of all, we would suggest you take your time and really think about your dreams, do not be afraid to just write them.
Think, Write, Express
As a first step let your ambitions have their own life. Think of their significance to you as a person and as a professional. Then try to desire them as you would any other new idea, product or campaign. This activity is legitimate as any other activity. So, if you write your ideas, if you talk about your ambitions with colleagues, friends, family, etc. This will empower you and turn your wishes into something real and tangible.
Let’s Play A Game
The spirit of the game is deep within us all, the difference is how big our playground is. Women with career ambitions are women who want to increase their playing field and if it’s not clear how to do it you can get knowledge through business consulting, management and marketing study or study of anything else that might lead to it.
This can be a great game. You could also lose, but a determination to play in order to win and not let anything block you, can in itself do wonders. There are always barriers and that includes personal fear of failure. Let us give you a simple exercise to handles fear; it is important you do it in order and in full:
Write all the things that block you at work and in life. Make a long and detailed list until you feel you have listed whole the things that really bothers you. But really everything! Now take all the things you wrote that you feel blocked them, and try to see what you can do about them, where do you feel that you have freedom of action. For example, if you indicated that you don’t have many hours because you are at home with the kids, this is a barrier. However, maybe the kids can help you distribute flyers in the neighborhood (with or without you, depending on their age) and thus help you grow your business, and that’s freedom of action in spite of barriers. Keep writing all the freedom of action that you have until you’ll feel the spirit of the game is coming back to you.
What happened during the exercise? Did you feel that the demons are really not that bad and you can do something about it? Great! If not, continue the exercise and write down more places, times and areas where you have that freedom of action.
A Manager And A Leader
If you are already on the road and on the right path of career, certainly you have encountered the issues of managing people. It is difficult to increase the playing field alone and definitely we have the need for cooperation with others. Every woman manager at the head of an organization, department or activity has special abilities that make her reach a leadership position. We refer to this as “leadership” and other names, but in fact it is the ability to handle the group, and cause it to prosper and expand.
A team may be full of the excellent people but it still does not ensure it success. Group programs can be amazing but they do not guarantee success. Let us give you some principles of successful leadership; you’ll be surprised that wisdom and popularity has nothing to do with it. Let others be who they are and feel comfortable with themselves. If you give your team confidence and pride in themselves, you will give them power, and a lot of it you get back. Do things calmly and efficiently. Distressed manager, during daily activities or even in a crisis, is signaling out that she is not completely professional. So calm and efficiency are the right approach – and this can be achieved by proficiency.
Yes, it seems that without clear instructions there will not be orderly coordination of workers and activities. As a result you can expect lack of agreement between management and employees and between employees themselves. When the manager is determined and gives clear instructions to their staff, they will reach an agreement and thus improve the communication and the general atmosphere. That does not mean strict discipline or leadership tough, it’s just a matter of determination.
Next to determination it is important to remember that positive communication is a key. Instructions given with anger, nervousness or threat will not achieve positive results, because they will not achieve true collaboration with others. So you could say positive emotion is really necessary to achieve prosperity and expansion.
And finally – without a clear sense and knowledge of what motivates you, what are your ideals and what triggers your passion as a person, work will only be a “job” rather than a “career” that can get you into something more satisfying and rich.
